The RTC Registered nurse is responsible for applying clinical nursing knowledge and skills to promote the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards. This position will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional care to RTC patients through education, nursing assessment, and administration of medication. The RTC Registered Nurse assesses physiological and psychosocial needs, implements nursing interventions, and communicates patient concerns to the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Valid and current Texas RN license
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • Completion annually of 10 CEU’s related to Emergency Care
  • 5+ years RN experience
  • 2+ years ICU & Emergency Department
  • Experience with EMRs
  • Demonstrated ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population and for CPR, oxygen administration, and intravenous therapy
  • Proven basic Computer Skills
  • Proven clear communication skills both verbal and written

Responsibilities

  • Participate in patient care activities and adheres to the requirement of a Registered Nurse when providing direct patient care. This is demonstrated by: Above-average ability to plan and implement patient care. Ability to make sound nursing judgment based on nursing theory. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill of assessment, including assessing for toxicities, medication side effects, and overall well-being. Reviews lab values and assesses for treatment toxicity prior to administering medication to patients. Ensures patient is appropriate for prescribed treatment and witnesses written consent if indicated. Provides patients with verbal and written educational materials related to the disease process, prescribed medication, and/or symptom management. Accurately administers medication to patients as prescribed by the physician. Demonstrates ability to start peripheral IV, administer IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and oral medications according to safe practice guidelines. Ability to consider the needs of the department by preplanning and proactively adjusting as needed. Ability to organize and utilize equipment, supplies, and medication according to patient needs based upon the physician order. Medical record documentation is legible, concise, accurate, and timely. Ability to assess and individualize the needs of each client and respond appropriately, utilizing available patient resources. Performs in-person and telephone patient assessment and documentation via electronic medical record (EMR). Assumes responsibility for competency of practice and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education. Prioritizes urgency of patients’ needs and is a patient advocate in meeting those needs. Responds to patient emergencies within the Rapid Treatment Clinic. Practices positive guest and peer relationships; supports and respects patients’ rights. Develops and maintains collaborative relationship with all members of the healthcare delivery system. Adheres to policy regarding advanced directives, informed consent, and patient complaints. Accurately completes clinical logs. Ensures that documentation of charges is accurate and complete and communicates all important facts to Director, Clinic Administrator, and Nursing Supervisor.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement activities, as evidenced by: Understands the clinic’s Quality Improvement Program and Initiatives. Understands the Quality Improvement Process. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and makes appropriate suggestions to nursing management. Participates in quality improvement projects as appropriate. Completes assigned quality improvement tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains active professional relationships with doctors, co-workers, external customers, patients, and caregivers by assessing needs and levels of satisfaction. Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. Identifies opportunities to enhance customer service, as evidenced by: Positive patient and physician satisfaction. Reports inefficiencies, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences to Director/Clinic Administrator/Supervisor. Serves as a role model to other staff members.   • Demonstrates ability to oversee coordination of patient services, as evidenced by: Assumes responsibility of assigned clinic patients. Ability to explain policies, procedures, and methods to others. Ability to appropriately delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Ensures proper use of resources (time and supplies), as evidenced by: Carefully uses supplies and medicines to avoid waste. Reports when supplies are low and need ordering. Ensures documentation of charges are accurate and complete. Keeps accurate time records. Stocks clinic with supplies as needed. Assists in keeping supply closet neat and organized. Identifies opportunities to be more cost-effective and efficient.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations and accreditation guidelines, as evidenced by: 100%25 of regulatory concerns or unusual occurrences are reported to supervisor and/or manager within 24 hours of occurrences. When patient injury or disaster occurs, supervisor or manager is notified immediately. RN license and all required certifications are kept current and on file at the center.
  • Adheres to all facility safety regulations and guidelines related to patient safety. Maintains unit in safe condition, as evidenced by: Keeping hallways clear. Securing electrical wiring. Reporting broken equipment. Participating in quarterly safety compliance drills and/or in-services. Identifies, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Provides an environment to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting Which includes but is not limited to: Hand washing. Aseptic and sterile technique.
