The RN II provides nursing care using the nursing process, directing team members and collaborating with multidisciplinary staff to provide appropriate care within a secure correctional setting. This role is with MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) which provides healthcare across rural South Carolina. The position is located at the Lexington County Detention Center and operates on a day shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The nurse will provide patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing nursing diagnoses, identifying outcomes, planning and implementing interventions, providing health teaching, and evaluating care. The role also involves ensuring a therapeutic environment and participating in professional governance and development. Specific to the correctional setting, the nurse will deliver nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols, respond promptly to emergencies, manage care in various units (intake/booking, general population, segregation, medical observation), coordinate with correctional officers, maintain strict control of sharps, medications, and clinical tools, ensure proper boundaries and compliance with PREA expectations, and document care according to correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations.
