About The Position

This is a full-time, overnight position where the Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Department Manager or Supervisor, assesses, plans, organizes, and evaluates all aspects of patient care for assigned unit/patients. The role involves utilizing the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards, including planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting the plan of care, and discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes. The nurse will admit, transfer, and discharge patients, complete ongoing patient assessments and documentation, and develop patient care plans. They will report symptoms and significant changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Collaboration with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team is essential for formal and informal teaching of patients and/or families about their disease process, wellness promotion, and discharge planning. The role also requires demonstrating an awareness of research in nursing and evaluating practices for improvement or research opportunities.

Requirements

Graduation from accredited school of nursing.
Current state license as a registered nurse.
Current CPR certification.
ACLS, PALS or TNCC certifications per policy.
Previous experience as an RN in related care area preferred.
Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50) pounds.
Requires stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching.
Requires standing and walking more than five (5) hours per day.
Requires visual acuity in order to correctly distinguish skin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection, also to read telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.
Requires audio acuity, in order to correctly distinguish various body sounds, i.e. respiration’s, heart sounds, bowel sounds, also to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment which would indicate dangerous or improper operation.
Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals.
Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year).
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination.
Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine.
Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization.
Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months.
VACCINE RECORDS OR EVIDENCE OF IMMUNITY ARE REQUIRED PRIOR TO 1ST DAY OF SCHEDULED WORK.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
Previous experience as an RN in related care area preferred.

Responsibilities

Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards of care which includes planning, implementing, evaluating and adjusting plan of care, and discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes.
Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
Completes ongoing patient assessment and documents according to policy.
Completes nursing assessment as appropriate for the patients condition and within established time frames.
Develops patient plan of care to include patient problems, goals, evaluations and interventions.
Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition to appropriate personnel and in timely manner.
Assesses, collaborates and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with other members of the care team.
Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Collaborates and works cooperatively with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in formal and informal teaching of patients and/or family about his or her disease process and wellness promotion plan and discharge planning.
Demonstrates an awareness and relevance of research in nursing. Evaluates practices to identify areas for improvement or opportunities for research.
Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
