Registered Nurse (RN) - Post Surgical Unit
About The Position
Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time night shift position (7p-7a). The unit is a 42-bed specialized unit caring for adult surgical patients, including those recovering from Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow surgeries. Patients on this unit may have co-existing conditions such as renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure. It is a telemetry-monitored unit with an average patient stay of 3-4 days. Additionally, the unit has 6 beds for Epilepsy monitoring and serves as the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit.
Requirements
- RN Degree REQUIRED
- Virginia RN License REQUIRED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Prior RN experience PREFERRED
Responsibilities
- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
- Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
- Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
