About The Position

The Correctional Registered Nurse provides skilled nursing care within a correctional facility, supporting incarcerated inmates. This role involves maintaining accurate medical documentation, providing patient education, administering medications, and collaborating with healthcare providers to implement treatment plans. The nurse will also apply infection control practices, conduct patient assessments, assist with procedures, manage medical supplies, and ensure a safe and secure clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Skilled nursing care experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical documentation.
  • Provide standardized patient education in accordance with established nursing guidelines.
  • Transcribe and communicate medical orders during shift changes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Deliver direct patient care, including physical treatments and medication administration (PO, IM, IV, SQ, SL).
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to implement and support individualized treatment plans.
  • Apply infection control practices and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Conduct patient interviews, triage assessments, and respond to urgent and emergent situations.
  • Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures.
  • Monitor, order, and restock medications and medical supplies as needed.
  • Observe and report patients’ physical and emotional conditions, including responses to medications and treatments.
  • Perform comprehensive physical and behavioral health assessments using established nursing protocols.
  • Promote and uphold a safe and secure clinical environment, including careful control of medications, sharps, instruments, and other sensitive medical items.
  • Operate clinical equipment appropriate to the assigned unit.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable life safety policies and procedures.
  • Report safety or security concerns promptly through established documentation channels.
