The St. Paul’s Hospital Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre is dedicated to providing exceptional maternity care, including pregnancy care, prenatal classes, private birthing experiences, and post-birth support. They offer inclusive, accessible, and comprehensive maternity care services, striving for culturally-safe and trauma-informed care. Indigenous people who are pregnant can access Indigenous Wellness Liaisons for culturally appropriate supports. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to meet patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs. This includes developing and revising care plans, incorporating patient teaching, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The position operates within a framework that includes minimum nurse-to-patient ratios (mNPR) developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, BC Nurses' Union, and health organizations across British Columbia to ensure safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. Providence Health Care's implementation of mNPR reflects a commitment to person-centered, socially just, compassionate care and Indigenous cultural safety, guided by their mission and values: Spirituality, Integrity, Stewardship, Trust, Excellence, and Respect.
