About The Position

HCA Florida Blake Hospital is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse for pre- and post-operative care. The role provides patient-centered nursing care before and after surgery as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team. The hospital offers advance self/preferential scheduling, collaboration among surgical staff, ongoing investment in equipment, and opportunities to share suggestions with unit leaders. On-call coverage is required during select non-business hours.

The nurse evaluates patients before surgery, prepares them for procedures, supports patients and families with education, and monitors and documents patient conditions and care. The role applies the nursing process, critical thinking, clinical judgment, technical skills, and leadership to deliver safe care and respond to emergencies.

The position requires a Florida RN license or appropriate compact licensure, with an active Florida RN license obtained within 60 days of hire if hired with a compact license. Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within six months of the employment start date, and Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days. A Nursing Diploma or Associate of Science in Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Requirements

• Florida Registered Nurse license in accordance with state regulations or appropriate compact licensure; if holding a compact license, an active Florida RN license is required within 60 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within six months of employment start date.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within six months of employment start date.
• Nursing Diploma or Associate of Science in Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Educate patients and families about the procedure and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in surgical site verification, briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols according to hospital policy.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.
• Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to deliver safe nursing care independently.
• Assess patients, monitor their condition throughout the shift, and thoroughly document changes and care provided.
• Educate patients and families or caregivers about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up measures.
• Provide on-call coverage during select non-business hours.
