About The Position

NiteLines USA is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to join our team, delivering contract support services to government institutions and medical treatment facilities. This specific role is at Florida State Hospital, a 24/7 psychiatric hospital with 223 buildings and a capacity of 1,334 patients, some as young as 13. The hospital treats patients civilly committed under Statute 394 and forensically committed under Statute 916. The civil units, also known as Forensic Transition units, house adult and elderly individuals, as well as forensic residents who have been "stepped down." The forensic ward has security measures including guards and a metal detector. The patient population primarily consists of ambulatory young adults aged 20-25, with a small geriatric dorm also available.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • One year of acute care or two years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training.
  • Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
  • Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs., remain alert while on duty, and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Assess resident complaints and determine action, notifying supervisor when necessary.
  • Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
  • Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy, and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
  • Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor, or further assessment and treatment.
  • Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
  • Coordinate residents’ appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as need for resident movement to and from the unit.
  • Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
  • Complete incident reports factually and objectively, within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
