RN – Inpatient, Acute Care Surgical Specialty
About The Position
UW Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for an inpatient acute care surgical specialty unit at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Nurses care for patients across Gynecology, Urology, Plastics, and ENT, working with an interdisciplinary team and supporting patients through specialized procedures and recovery. The role includes patient and family education, such as helping patients prepare to care for themselves at home following urinary diversion surgeries, and monitoring patients after procedures such as breast reconstruction with free flap. The unit also offers experience with airway management, including new tracheostomies. The position is 90% FTE, with day/evening shifts and a weekend rotation. Holidays are required, and hours depend on departmental operational needs. Evening and weekend differentials are offered for applicable hours worked.
Requirements
- At least six months of nursing experience, or current participation in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on the unit or a similar unit.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin or holding a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Relevant RN experience preferred.
- Relevant certification preferred.
Responsibilities
