The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre/Post Surgery department utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan. This role involves the patient and family in care planning and implementation, developing therapeutic relationships throughout the healthcare continuum. The RN anticipates and recognizes significant changes in patient condition, status, and care needs, providing ongoing assessment and taking appropriate action. They adapt the care plan as needed, mobilize resources, and collaborate with other healthcare team members for patient-centered care. The position focuses on implementing strategies to reduce patient risk and enhance safety, assessing and addressing patient and family learning needs, and coordinating discharge plans through an interdisciplinary approach. The RN applies evidence-based practice, incorporates nursing and regulatory standards, and evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes. They support shared governance, demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills, and promote collaboration among healthcare team members. The RN assumes a leadership role, delegates appropriately, and promotes a culture of safety by identifying and intervening in potential patient harm situations. Ethical decision-making, respect for peers and other disciplines, and participation in quality improvement initiatives are essential. The role also involves personal and professional development, seeking learning opportunities, and attending required meetings and educational programs. The RN must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles and assessing patient needs based on age-specific requirements.
