About The Position

Join Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. This is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. Our Emergency Department leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The patient population includes all ages, acuities, stages of life and types. The unit has a patient ratio of 1:4 and 29 beds plus hallway beds (11a-11p). Department specifics include being a Level II Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center with LVO capability, Chest Pain Center, robust EMS partnership, CT Scanner within the ED, collaborative relationship with Physicians, self-scheduling, certified emergency nurse fees paid, evidence-based practices, trauma training, triage training, and stroke certification.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an Accredited Program
  • Specialized field of study in nursing
  • RN license
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting
  • 1 year of recent hospital acute care ED experience

Nice To Haves

  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessment, recognizing health issues.
  • Create care plans and assess patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Implement and evaluate care plans, adjusting them to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show community service commitment.
