This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at an award-winning hospital partner in Lewiston, Maine. The role involves providing direct patient care during night shifts for an assignment length of 12 weeks. Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current ACLS certificate required upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC required upon hire and maintain current.
  • Basic Arrythmia Interpretation required upon hire.
  • Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
  • EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
  • Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department during night shift, including triage, assessment, monitoring, and interventions.
  • Apply the nursing process to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and telemetry; respond rapidly to changes.
  • Communicate patient status, diagnostic results, and treatment plans with physicians and the care team.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and emergency interventions per orders and protocols.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, discharge instructions, and follow-up.
  • Supervise and coordinate LVNs/LPNs and nursing assistants as needed.
  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure EMTALA compliance and report suspected abuse to appropriate agencies.
  • Participate in emergency response, trauma resuscitation, and critical care stabilization.
  • Support patient safety initiatives and evidence-based emergency nursing practices.
