About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides critical care to ICU patients during vulnerable periods of their lives, combining decisive clinical judgment, preparation, critical thinking, empathy, and compassionate support for patients and their families. The role includes around-the-clock critical care responsibilities and requires coordination of care, monitoring of advanced life-support measures, attention to psychosocial needs, and communication with families and the care team. The position is with Lakeview Hospital, part of LCMC Health, which provides the only Level II trauma center in St. Tammany Parish.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current PALS certification.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate patient care.
Evaluate vital signs according to standards of care and monitor life-support measures, including advanced cardiac and respiratory technology.
Apply knowledge of complex patient conditions, including psychosocial needs.
Maintain and advocate for a safe environment.
Communicate promptly with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in patient condition, questions, and concerns.
Prevent and treat wounds.
Monitor and carry out Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and a positive patient experience.
Collaborate and consult with the nursing supervisor to identify and meet patient-care needs, including when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely.
Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
Assist team members without being asked.
