The Registered Nurse (RN) works in Generose 1W (GE1W), Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, an 18-bed closed unit caring for patients ages 2–18 who are experiencing psychiatric crises. The program uses a short-term crisis intervention treatment model and provides a safe, supportive, highly structured environment. The care team includes nurses, patient care assistants, psychiatrists, psychologists, a music therapist, social workers, and specialty physicians. Care includes thorough assessment of biological, medical, developmental, psychosocial, psychological, and educational skills and needs that may affect the well-being of the child and family. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. Within Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care, provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement, and delegates care according to staff skill and experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources. The RN may also participate in committees or projects. Some employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship; successful sponsorship requires state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program.
