About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Psych Acute Adult department at Prime Healthcare Mercy Medical in Aurora, Illinois. This is a full-time night-shift position scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The role provides nursing care to patients with behavioral health needs, including treatment, education, advice, and emotional support for patients and/or their families. Nurses also conduct therapeutic groups and provide psychiatric crisis intervention, including seclusion and restraint when applicable.

Requirements

• Current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current certification.
• Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
• Working knowledge of the interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming, and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
• Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Responsibilities

• Treat patients and provide advice and emotional support to patients and/or their family members.
• Educate patients about mental and medical conditions.
• Run therapeutic groups and provide psychiatric crisis intervention.
• Provide seclusion and restraint of patients when applicable.
• Record patients’ medical histories and symptoms.
• Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results.
• Operate medical machinery.
• Administer treatments and medications.
• Help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Teach patients and their families how to manage illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy.
• Perform other related duties.
