About The Position

Malvern Treatment Centers is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for their brand new Rehab and Detox Program in South Philadelphia. This role involves organizing and administering individual, professional patient care, providing nursing care as directed by the Nurse Manager and/or Director of Nursing and the medical staff in accordance with the multidisciplinary treatment plan objectives, policies, and procedures of Malvern Treatment Centers. The position is full-time, with a schedule of three nights per week from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, and requires working every other weekend. This is a state-of-the-art facility located in South Philadelphia.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a nurse in PA.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Program and Commission of Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities standards.
  • Ability to work in a supportive, caring and non-judgmental manner with staff and patients in order to gain confidence and cooperation with patients.
  • Ability to care plan and identify appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Microsoft Office Proficient.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience in the treatment of addiction is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the safety/wellness and well-being of the patients.
  • Facilitates the assignment of nursing tasks to ensure smooth shift operations.
  • Identifies and provides written assessment of patients on admission and throughout treatment.
  • Documents current needs/problems and past medical, psychiatric, drug and alcohol history.
  • Completes a multi-disciplinary assessment when needed.
  • Identifies and evaluates patients’ learning needs, ability and readiness to learn, and ensures that they are addressed during treatment.
  • Formulates and utilizes a written nursing care plan, based on diagnosis, special patient outcomes, and appropriate nursing measures, integrating the plan with the multidisciplinary team and patient.
  • Demonstrates appropriate application of nursing skills during detoxification by assessing the patient’s needs for medication based on withdrawal symptoms as ordered by the physician.
  • Administers and accounts for medications and controlled drugs.
  • Orders new medications and replaces stock medications.
  • Provides for patient safety through preventative measures, including implementing fire safety, infection control and isolation procedures when appropriate.
  • Responds to and directs emergency situations as necessary.
  • Oversees and assists in providing instruction for patients, including explanation of procedures, treatments, and medications.
  • Provides educational literature to patients and meets with them individually.
  • Responds to and implements special precautions/interventions for suicidal, homicidal, or aggressive patients.
  • Assesses, evaluates and revises the written plan of care, ensuring identification of problems as well as patient response to interventions.
  • Delegates duties to staff members appropriately after assessing patients’ needs and varying skill level of staff members.
  • Obtains and carries out physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Participates in continuing education to reach professional growth objectives, including performing nursing audits, peer reviews and participating in committees.
  • Acts as a resource person regarding patient care and specialty areas.
  • Participates in task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Makes assignments for the nursing staff on each schedule shift, including monitoring patient care activities, troubleshooting problems, ensuring orders are followed, resolving staffing issues, coordinating admissions/discharges/transfers, coordinating break times, assigning nurses for clinical reviews, pharmacy discrepancies, narcotic handling, chart checks, vital sign checks, and ensuring shift meetings or case conferences are attended.
  • Acts as the lead nurse for questions during their shift.
  • Prepares and certifies the accuracy of the midnight census.
  • Follows all infection control practices.
