About The Position

The Staff Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent registered professional nurse who provides nursing care to acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other members of the health team while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and complies with its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, policies, procedures, guidelines, and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
• Registered Professional Nurse licensure in the state where the employee works.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with others.
• Strong analytic abilities.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the specific clinical area.
• For Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room roles: Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Emergency Communications Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Nurse, or Certified Emergency Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
• Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff; create a documented, outcomes-focused plan that records communications and care decisions.
• Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
• Evaluate and document patients’ responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on findings.
• Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
