Registered Nurse (RN) - Short Stay / Observation Unit (SSU)
About The Position
Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit. This is a full-time, night shift position in Suffolk, VA, with hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, including rotating weekends. The Observation/Short Stay Unit is an 18-bed department specializing in observation, post-procedural monitoring, and short-term treatments. Patients typically stay a maximum of two days. Nurses can expect 6-8 patient discharges per shift with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6. The unit is supported by a skilled team, has low staff turnover, and a strong culture of collaboration. Additional PCT staff are available to assist. This team is suitable for both new graduates and experienced nurses. Sentara Obici Hospital is a certified stroke center and holds magnet designation.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Registered nursing License (Required)
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- Students in process of obtaining Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
- Students in process of obtaining Registered nursing licensure
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
- 1 year of acute care (preferred)
- Previous healthcare experience (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation.
- Ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
- Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
