About The Position

The Registered Nurse works as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Juravinski Hospital Emergency Department (ED). As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses. ED nurses work in fast-paced, complex and highly technologically integrated environments. In addition to working within the unit, once the required experience is obtained, opportunities exist for ED Registered Nurses to complete advanced training to work within the Critical Care Response Team as well as become a member of the Critical Care Transport Team, which provides land transport for critically ill patients across southern Ontario.

Requirements

  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and certification
  • Minimum of 1 year Previous Emergency Department experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 1 year Previous Acute Care Setting experience as a Registered Nurse

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Current certification in Trauma Care for Nurses or Trauma Nursing Care course (TNCC)
  • Current certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Current certification in Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS)
  • Successful completion of the HHS Critical Practice orientation program (CPO) or an equivalent Critical Care certificate from an accredited educational institution

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and evaluates patient care.
  • Provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Works in fast-paced, complex and highly technologically integrated environments.
  • Completes advanced training to work within the Critical Care Response Team (once required experience is obtained).
  • Becomes a member of the Critical Care Transport Team (once required experience is obtained).
  • Provides land transport for critically ill patients across southern Ontario (as part of the Critical Care Transport Team).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of assessment and management of a broad range of disease processes involving all age groups; e.g. critically ill, injured, episodic and non-urgent patients.
  • Demonstrates culturally sensitive approach and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership ability and organizational skills and ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in working with peers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, both in the hospital and in the community.
  • Able to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills in a high volume, high patient turnover environment.
  • Works as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the best care for all.
  • Provides an Excellent Patient Experience with each patient and family.
  • Maintains evidence of consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Commits to ongoing learning within and outside of the workplace.
