About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. The role includes scrub and circulating functions, assisting the operating physician, and preparing operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use. The position is in the Operating Room at UAB St. Vincent’s St. Clair and is scheduled full time, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with no overtime and a stay-late rotation.

Requirements

• Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
• Professional nursing licensure at the time of hire.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing before the hire date or job transfer date.
• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
• Perform scrub functions, including selecting and handling instruments and supplies used during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing the patient’s overall nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
