About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Olympia Fields Hospital is responsible for delivering safe patient care through the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). This role involves providing direct patient care within the scope of practice, guiding patient/family teaching, and directing other nursing personnel while upholding professional nursing care standards, including in Telemetry. The RN is directly accountable for patient care in the Emergency Department, communicating with physicians regarding changes in clinical condition, diagnostic results, and symptomatology. The nurse must be capable of rapid and accurate responses to patient condition changes and treatment responses, be knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations, and understand the reporting of child/adult abuse to relevant agencies and the Hospital Social Worker. Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality is also a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire
  • Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting
  • In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current
  • EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire
  • Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • E.R. setting preferred
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice
  • Directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing care in Telemetry
  • Directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her patients in the Emergency Department
  • Communicates with the physician about the changes in the patients clinical condition including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology
  • Capable of responding quickly and accurately to changes in the condition and/or response to treatment
  • Knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
