About The Position

Ohio’s Hospice is seeking compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our inpatient hospice team at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This is an opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered end-of-life care in a collaborative environment that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and compassion for patients and their families. We are currently seeking PRN Registered Nurses for the following shifts: Day Shift: 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Night Shift: 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, coordinating services, and evaluating patient outcomes. Working closely with patients, families, physicians, and the interdisciplinary hospice team, the RN helps ensure safe, compassionate, and consistent care in accordance with professional nursing standards and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing (ASN) from an accredited nursing program required
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Automobile insurance meeting state minimum requirements.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including during daytime, nighttime, and inclement weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Two years of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of hospice patients and their families.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized, patient-centered plans of care.
  • Monitor changes in patient conditions and communicate updates promptly to physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in hospice admissions, care conferences, and interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, physician orders, and patient care in the electronic health record.
  • Communicate clinical information effectively using SBAR and other standardized handoff procedures.
  • Provide appropriate supervision, education, and evaluation of Personal Care Specialists, volunteers, and other caregivers in accordance with applicable policies and scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to promote excellent patient care.
  • Serve as a preceptor for newly hired clinical staff when assigned.
  • Collaborate with other departments and team members to support organizational goals and the mission of Ohio’s Hospice.
