About The Position

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Join our Med 4 team, a 36-bed specialty unit that cares for adult medical-surgical patients with neurological, renal, and urologic conditions. Med 4 offers nurses the opportunity to develop strong assessment skills while caring for a diverse patient population with low to moderate acuity. The unit has two sections: Neurology/Renal & Urology (4200 Hall) and another section (4300 Hall), each with 18 beds and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 6:1. Common diagnoses include stroke, seizure disorders, kidney disease, electrolyte imbalances, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and post-urologic procedure patients. Nurses on Med 4 frequently care for patients with Foley catheters, nephrostomy tubes, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), dialysis access devices, enteral feeding tubes, and telemetry monitoring. This unit provides valuable experience in neurological assessments, stroke protocols, fluid and electrolyte management, renal medication monitoring, and multidisciplinary care coordination with nephrology and urology specialists.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN)
  • Current RN license in the hiring state or compact licensure
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • 1+ Year of Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Nurses on Med 4 frequently care for patients with: Foley catheters, Nephrostomy tubes, Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), Dialysis access devices, Enteral feeding tubes, Telemetry monitoring
  • Experience in neurological assessments, stroke protocols, fluid and electrolyte management, renal medication monitoring, and multidisciplinary care coordination with nephrology and urology specialists.
