Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a level one trauma center, is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. This is a 16-bed unit. Norfolk General Hospital is the only Sentara Facility that performs Kidney/Pancreas Transplants and complex vascular surgeries. The unit provides immediate surgical recovery of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant patients, general surgical patients requiring ICU care, management of patients requiring mechanical ventilation, and management of patients requiring CRRT and hemo-dialysis. Vascular surgeries include lower extremity revascularization, Abdominal Aortic Aneurism repair, Mesenteric Artery Repair, EVAR, TEVAR, Lower extremity bypass, revascularization, Carotid Endarectomy and Carotid Stent, EKOS- treatment for DVTs, and medical management of AAA’s and dissections. The general patient population served includes adult medical and surgical patients requiring intensive nursing care. The average length of stay is 2-3 days, though complex patients may stay longer than 30 days.
