About The Position

Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity for a Per Diem Registered Nurse for our Adult Day Program located in Hillsborough, NJ. Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Matheny's mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for children and adults with special needs and medically complex developmental disabilities. Founded by Walter and Marquerite Matheny in 1951, the Matheny of today is a pioneer in providing fully integrated, personalized care and education that respects each person's dignity and encourages their highest potential. Our fully-accredited non-profit school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes seven licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited college of university required.
  • One year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse by the State of New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License with an insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates well with staff members and fosters a supportive and motivating environment.
  • Oversees services provided by LPN and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in the Adult Day Program.
  • Ensures adequate Nursing and DSP staffing in order to meet the needs of the clients.
  • Collaborates with primary nurses in the Group Homes on clients' care issues.
  • Provides regular feedback to the RN Supervisor pertaining to program functioning, issues and developments.
  • Monitors the integrity of medication management procedures.
  • Completes Medication Incident Reports for medication administration and dispensing errors as well as suspected diversions of controlled substances.
  • Ensures that errors are communicated immediately.
  • Collaborates with the entire interdisciplinary team, clients, and families to coordinate client services.
  • Participates in problem-solving efforts and accomplishes assigned tasks for the team.
  • Protects clients and staff members by ensuring compliance with infection control policies and procedures and enforcing medication administration storage procedures and controlled dangerous substance regulations.
  • Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of medical records.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures and acts as Incident Commander during program hours pending arrival of emergency services.
