About The Position

Registered Nurse position in the 16-bed CVICU in Nashville, Tennessee. The unit provides specialized care for immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients and uses advanced cardiac support devices, including ECMO, CentriMag, and HM3 LVADs. Five full-time surgeons perform high-volume and advanced cardiac surgeries, and an intensivist is assigned to the unit 24/7. The unit describes its nursing team as strongly committed to teamwork.

Patient ratios are 1:2, or 1:1 for certain device patients. A free-floating charge nurse is available to assist staff. A unit secretary and Administrative Care Tech are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and Student Nurse Externs work variable shifts to assist nurses with tech duties. Employees may float as needed, primarily to other ICUs, but potentially to other floors. Scheduling requires two weekends per month, one summer holiday, and two winter holidays. The dress code permits black, red, or galaxy blue scrubs, with scrub jackets or vests only.

Requirements

• Strong critical care experience, including CVICU experience.
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS.
• Experience with PA catheters and hemodynamic monitoring.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients.
• Care for patients requiring devices and therapies including ECMO, CentriMag, and HM3 LVADs.
• Perform central line insertion, Swan insertion, intubations, and other critical care procedures.
• Float as needed, primarily to other ICUs and potentially to other floors.
• Work two weekends per month, one summer holiday, and two winter holidays.
