About The Position

The Registered Nurse position at the Mason Women's Heart Center is a full-time role focused on direct patient care. Responsibilities include interviewing patients to determine medical conditions, documenting findings in the EMR, obtaining vital signs, assisting physicians with examinations, and educating patients on procedures and treatments. The role also involves managing patient concerns through phone triage, managing lipids and protimes, following up on physician orders and lab results, and documenting all services for billing. The nurse will observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians of any changes. A key part of the role is initiating patient education plans and abstracting patient records via the EMR. The nurse will also utilize EMR functions for tasking, messaging, and disease management, using Centricity and other relevant software. Responding to emergencies, maintaining the crash cart and defibrillator, and performing other assigned duties are also expected.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed RN by State Board.
  • Certified in BLS required.
  • Defibrillator, blood pressure monitor, EKG equipment, treadmill and crash cart maintenance.
  • Copier, fax, computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Centricity, EMR preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • 3 years RN experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to determine medical problem/condition and document in chart (EMR) for physician.
  • Obtain and record patient’s vital signs including weight.
  • Assist physician with patient examination as needed.
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs.
  • Manage lipids, protimes and phone triage of patient concerns.
  • Follow up on physician orders and lab requests.
  • Obtain direction from physician as needed.
  • Inform patient of test results and any further treatment prescribed; provide explanation and education to patient.
  • Document services performed in EMR for billing purposes.
  • Observe patient, record significant conditions and reaction, and notify supervisor or physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatment, and significant incidents.
  • Assist physician in clinical care of patient.
  • Document nursing history in EMR and physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Initiate a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the physician.
  • Abstract patient records via the EMR.
  • Use other EMR functions such as tasking, messaging, and disease management.
  • Use Centricity and other software as appropriate to support nursing functions.
  • Respond to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
  • Maintain crash cart and defibrillator.
  • All other duties as assigned.
