About The Position

The Staff Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent registered professional nurse who provides care to acutely ill patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse prescribes, delegates, and coordinates care; interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members; and maintains ANA standards of professional nursing practice. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values, follows its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
Basic Life Support.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate with others.
Strong analytic abilities.

Responsibilities

Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff, and create a documented plan focused on outcomes and service-delivery decisions that reflects communication with patients, families, and others.
Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
