About The Position

The registered nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. Within Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, using the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice as a basis for practice.

The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal and informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources. Strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are important; the RN may also participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of the role.

Requirements

• Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
• Current RN license in accordance with applicable state requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Computer skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, potentially including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the work setting.
• Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical-thinking skills.
• Maintain Basic Life Support competency where required by state and work area. Midwest positions require current BLS for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Additional state licensure and/or specialty certification or training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

• One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting, or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
