About The Position

The Pre/Post-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring safe preparation prior to surgery and effective recovery following anesthesia. This role is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and educating patients while collaborating with the surgical and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care. The RN plays a critical role in promoting patient safety, comfort, and positive outcomes throughout the perioperative experience. This position supports efficient surgical operations while maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oklahoma
  • Demonstrates strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills in fast-paced environments
  • Works collaboratively as part of a team to support surgical services and patient flow
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations and changing patient conditions
  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, time management and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and support patient-centered care
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff in a professional manner
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate medical equipment, and document care.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to visually read medical charts and operate clinical technology.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a critical access hospital or rural healthcare setting preferred
  • Previous perioperative, surgical, or acute care nursing experience preferred
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Must obtain within 90 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-operative assessments, verifying patient identity, procedure, consents, and readiness for surgery
  • Prepare patients for procedures by initiating IV access, administering medications, and providing education and emotional support
  • Monitor and assess patients in the post-anesthesia phase, including airway, vital signs, pain, and neurological status
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or post-op complications
  • Provide clear discharge instructions and education to patients and families
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of patient care, medications, and clinical observations
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area compliant with infection control standards
  • Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation standards, including utilization of SQSS (Strategic Quality Support System) for compliance tracking.
  • Adhere to all hospital policy and procedure, follow HIPAA guidelines, available for duty in the event of a disaster, completes all required educational training and performs other job duties as assigned.
