Experienced Registered Nurse, Acute Progressive Care Neurology, Full Time, Nights
About The Position
The Clinical Staff Nurse (CSN) champions quality patient care and uses critical thinking and scientific judgment to anticipate and plan care. The nurse performs at a competent level and consistently applies the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, care coordination, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation. The role upholds professional standards in ethics, cultural diversity, communication, collaboration, evidence-based practice, nursing research, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. Within the JHS CARE Model, the CSN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients and maintains the clinical knowledge and skills required for the specialty area. This role is based in the Acute Progressive Care Neurology unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital, West Wing 12 (Med-Surg / Progressive Neuro), and is a full-time night position from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with rotating weekends.
Requirements
- Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.
- Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
- Valid Florida RN license is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers are required upon hire, with at least 6 months of validity, and must be maintained at JHS during employment.
- Must meet and maintain current unit-specific and organizational skills and competencies, certifications, and licensures as required by regulatory requirements or nursing standards of practice for the specialty.
- Unit-specific credential: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of experience as a med-surg registered nurse.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
Responsibilities
- Implements and coordinates patient care in collaboration with physicians, providers, and healthcare staff.
- Uses the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to apply nursing knowledge.
- Documents relevant information about nursing care, care plans, and patient observations.
- Accounts for narcotics and emergency equipment during each tour of duty.
- Maintains working knowledge of facility infection-control procedures.
- Recognizes, questions, and reports significant patient findings or inconsistencies in orders or treatment plans, and collaborates to seek corrective action.
- Selects, individualizes, updates, and follows clinical procedures, protocols, standards, clinical pathways, plans of care, narcotics policies, and discharge and teaching plans.
- Completes and submits patient and unit charges.
- Recognizes and prioritizes unit needs or problems and independently implements corrective actions.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibilities when assigned, supervises designated personnel, and takes necessary action.
- Uses logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
- Provides functional direction and assistance to LPNs, CNAs, or MAs, and conducts new staff orientation as assigned.
- Makes timely rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance.
- Follows unit-specific policies and procedures in the competency checklist.
- Uses job-specific and unit-specific equipment as required.
