The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized patient care. This role collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and knowledge using age- and population-specific standards for the assigned clinical setting. The RN supports patients across preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, and is responsible for care planning and coordination, patient assessment and education, triage, and other nursing interventions. Practice follows the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, as well as Sanford’s professional nursing practice standards. The position is in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), a short-term, monitored care area for patients who need medical evaluation and treatment that can typically be completed within 24 hours. The CDU provides continued observation, diagnostic testing, symptom assessment, and therapy for patients who are not admitted but need care beyond what can be provided at home. Patients remain until a diagnosis is made and they are discharged or admitted for further care.
