About The Position

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking devoted and passionate Registered Nurses. Requirements

  • Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license at the time of appointment.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing services such as checking vital signs, giving medications, performing treatments, and reinforcing health education
  • Assist physicians during exams and clinics while administering tests, screenings, and immunizations
  • Provide first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) support and refer patients to appropriate medical professionals
  • Maintain accurate electronic health records, complete written reports, and safeguard controlled substances
  • Sterilize instruments, handle chemical and steam methods, and maintain an organized inventory of treatment supplies
  • Share shift reports, communicate urgent information, and support smooth operations within the facility
