Registered Nurse (Part-Time): Cold Springs Correctional Unit #10
About The Position
This is a part-time Registered Nurse position at Cold Springs Correctional Unit #10. The role involves providing nursing care within adult correctional institutions using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating. Services include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life support/emergency care. The nurse will document patient information, maintain confidentiality, and interface with other departments. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, with a limit of 29 hours per week on average. This wage position offers no state benefits.
Requirements
- Possess and maintain valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not yet licensed, NCLEX-RN Exam must be scheduled at time of application)
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire

Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care within adult institutions by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating institutional patients per the standards of practice.
- Utilize a multitude of services to include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life supporting/emergency care.
- Document all pertinent information into the health record while practicing confidentiality.
- Interface with other departments on an as-needed basis.
- Delegate tasks/workload and work hours, days, and locations as assigned.
- Provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
- Provide evidence-based nursing care and promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
