Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit). This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The PVSU at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 16-bed step-down unit specializing in the treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators, most of whom come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The unit focuses on maximizing rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care, and mental stimulation. The nurse/patient ratio is 3:1 based upon nursing acuity. New graduate RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program for new graduates.
