About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Emergency Department at our M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital location in Minneapolis, MN. The registered nurse in our Pediatric Emergency Department is responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations. The scope of practice extends from a patient’s entry into the emergency room and continues from triage through discharge. Care is centered on patients and families experiencing acute or chronic, actual or potential physical or psychosocial problems. Unique to emergency nursing are processes that require resuscitation and/or stabilization. The hospital has been providing innovative care and community services to the residents of the scenic Minnesota Valley since 1984. We deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. We are seeking new talent to meet our volume and growth demands. We offer 12 beds and deliver care to 25,000 patients annually. Our nurse to patient ratio is about 1:4-5. Our partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School and University of Minnesota Physicians provides the platform to specialize in breakthrough treatments, surgical techniques, lifesaving therapies and to train tomorrow's physicians. Clinical trials advance our clinical services, bringing the very newest insights inpatient care.

Requirements

  • AD
  • One year pediatric critical care experience OR Completion of a Capstone or similar preceptorship experience in a Peds ED setting.
  • Current MN RN License
  • BLS is required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or BAN
  • One year pediatric emergency department experience.
  • Certification by the Emergency Nurses Association in Pediatrics (PCEN) and/or course in advanced trauma nursing (CATN).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 1 year of hire
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 1 year of hire
  • PALS certification within 1 year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Safely performing advanced monitoring using current technology.
  • Handles and safely administers complex medication and infusion therapies. Adjusts the patient’s plan of care following the evaluation of patient’s response to the infusion.
  • Caring for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit.
  • Demonstrating ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.
  • Demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
  • Fulfilling all organizational requirements
