About The Position
UC Health is hiring a Full- time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Mental Health Services unit at UC Medical Center. PES is the only Psychiatric Emergency Room in Southwest Ohio. We offer crisis intervention and rapid assessment of person’s need for behavioral health care in the least restrictive environment for Hamilton County and the surrounding area. PES has a Psychiatrist on site 24/7, and provides phone consultation, crisis intervention, medication evaluation and treatment, diagnostic assessment, disposition planning, mobile crisis intervention, and education of emergency providers in the community. Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Current OH RN License
- BLS/ACLS/PALS per department requirements based on patient population needs.
- For employees working in UCMC Psychiatric Services, NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities
- The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.
- Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
- Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
- Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
- Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
- Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
