About The Position

Join UPMC Shadyside’s Emergency Department! This is a Full-Time position available at 36 hours a week. UPMC Shadyside is a Magnet-designated teaching hospital with ongoing research and education. The SHY Emergency Department is a 50-bed unit specializing in critical care, emergent oncology care, and minor trauma care. It is a unique collaboration with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and designated Oncology ED for Southwestern UPMC region, providing comprehensive care for all patients 24/7. It is a primary stroke center with a 24-hour cardiac catheterization lab for STEMI cases. The volume and acuity are variable and can change quickly, making the ED an extremely fast-paced, unpredictable environment where rapid problem-solving and critical thinking are necessary to address evolving needs and priorities. We are a teaching facility that supports quality patient care and staff education. This ED understands work/life balance and values its staff.

Requirements

  • 1 year of RN experienced required, must have prior ED experience
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients.
  • Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients and their families, executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and other departments.
  • Work productively and effectively in an environment with changing priorities that require specialized skills.
  • Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care.
  • Use sound clinical judgment and problem-solve to deliver quality patient care when it matters most.
  • Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
