This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care within a healthcare unit and housing units. The Registered Nurse will assess patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions, apply knowledge of available resources for health history and assessment, and provide written assessments upon admission, during confinement, and upon discharge. Key responsibilities include summarizing assessment data, making triage decisions, planning individual treatment programs utilizing available protocols and referral processes, and implementing care and patient teaching. The nurse will consult with various healthcare professionals and correctional staff, implement clinical and technical aspects of care, and ensure patient safety through proper techniques and procedures. A significant part of the role includes administering medications, including IV therapy, and understanding pharmacology, drug reactions, and overdoses. The nurse will also obtain diagnostic tests and body fluid specimens, implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and document all nursing encounters using the SOAP format. Communication with other staff, physicians, and department heads is crucial, as is respecting patient dignity and confidentiality.
