About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient- and family-centered care. The RN demonstrates clinical competency using evidence-based practices throughout assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. The role incorporates safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement into nursing practice; identifies patient, unit, and organizational priorities; and complies with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Care is provided within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. The position is on the Surgical Trauma Unit at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, a 50-bed medical-surgical unit primarily serving adults recovering from traumatic injuries that typically require surgical intervention. The unit has telemetry monitoring for up to 23 patients, and the standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed. Patients are hemodynamically stable and may have injuries resulting from penetrating trauma, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, or falls. The RN assesses patients, develops and implements plans of care, coordinates with patients, families, and other disciplines, documents care and observations, delegates nursing responsibilities appropriately, and contributes to quality improvement and safe staffing. The acute inpatient setting may require weekend, holiday, and on-call work. This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
