About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services, specifically the Raymond Laborde Correctional Center, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the Nursing Department as a NIGHT SHIFT REGISTERED NURSE. This role involves performing nursing duties for inmates within a state correctional facility, managing a wide spectrum of conditions from emergency response and acute trauma to chronic disease, wound care, and mental health. The position offers set, predictable schedules, a supportive multidisciplinary team, and the security of working in a facility with on-site security. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Authorization for the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) by answering ‘YES’ to the PREA question.
  • Official documentation for any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified prior to hire.
  • Accompanying transcript for verification if qualifying experience is based on college credit/college hours.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional nurse duties that may include administration of blood and blood components, I.V. medications, parenteral nutrition, central line therapy, etc., under the close supervision of a registered nurse of a higher level.
  • Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assists in the development of nursing plans of care for patients in assigned units.
