About The Position

This is an 8-week contract position for a Travel RN - Registered Nurse (Employee Health) - FlexStaff. The role involves performing an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process. The nurse will collaborate with physicians and other health team members, utilizing leadership skills and clinical judgment to coordinate patient care and direct the activities of the patient care unit team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in the related specialty.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut, required.
  • BLS required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient’s physiologic health status, including conducting patient interviews, explaining policies and procedures, reviewing charts, assessing various body systems, determining mobility and skin condition, assessing pain levels, and communicating/documenting the patient’s status and plan of care.
  • Assesses patient’s psychosocial health status, including eliciting perception of care, determining coping mechanisms, identifying cultural/ethnic requirements, and communicating/documenting psychological status and care plan.
  • Identifies patient outcomes by developing criteria for measurement, identifying actual/potential patient problems, assessing teaching needs, and developing patient outcome statements and individualized goals.
  • Formulates the plan of care and establishes priorities by identifying care activities, coordinating cost-effective use of resources, documenting the plan, and collaborating with physicians and other health team members.
  • Implements the plan of care by maintaining vigilance over patient safety, exercising professional skills, reassessing patients, administering treatments, using equipment correctly, providing emotional support, applying scientific principles, making accurate observations, documenting treatments and patient responses, managing emergencies, providing a calm atmosphere, communicating with families, participating in discharge planning, and providing discharge instructions.
  • Evaluates care provided for patient outcome by measuring effectiveness, performing variance analysis, designing/implementing/evaluating systems to improve care, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens, providing direction to other members of the care team, accurately interpreting and implementing physician orders, assisting physicians, keeping the Patient Care Manager/designee and/or physician informed of patient condition changes, and delegating assignments to support staff.
  • Performs grade I-IV Decubitus Care, including preventive skin care measures, applying simple dressings with aseptic technique, applying warm & cold compresses, performing irrigations, and other necessary skin care procedures.
  • Administers medications correctly and safely by correctly identifying medication, action, dosage, side effects, meeting medication administration exam standards, demonstrating preparation of solutions and IV drips, administering and documenting medications correctly, administering IVP medication per policy, and educating patients on drug and food interactions.
  • Participates in patient and family education by explaining the patient's condition, communicating assessment data, recognizing and utilizing teaching opportunities and resources, providing early discharge planning and referrals, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
