This role is responsible for providing the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit. The nurse will initiate, implement, and update patient care plans, make nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees, and maintain acceptable standards of patient care including specified rounding requirements. The position also involves identifying problems and guiding personnel to their solution, creating a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel, and accurately and promptly implementing physicians' orders. The nurse will administer medications skillfully and correctly consistent with policy, maintain standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting, and ensure needed supplies and equipment are available. Participation in planning changes and improvements, hospital safety programs, and supporting/enforcing infection-control policies and procedures are also key aspects of the role. The nurse will anticipate and respond effectively to emergency and stressful situations, keep the House Supervisor informed of patients, needs, problems, and patient acuity on the nursing unit, and maintain all education requirements according to organization and state requirements. Evaluating personnel performance with recommendations for action, assisting in reviewing and revising policies and procedures, and willingly providing assistance to other nursing units when requested by management personnel are also expected. Maintaining a professional approach with confidentiality, displaying concern and initiative, observing and supporting hospital policy, and adhering to hospital policies regarding punctuality and absences, while being flexible with scheduling, are crucial. Cooperation and maintenance of good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors are essential. The role includes practicing scripting and communicating effectively with patients and family members, observing and adhering to patients’ Bill of Rights as related to patient care, and performing any and all job duties as assigned by the Director for completion of job requirements. Annual completion of World Health Organization hand hygiene education and training and its relationship to infection control, in addition to physical demonstration and understanding of compliance monitoring, is required.
