About The Position

The Med/Surg Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient: adult and geriatric using the Nursing Process. Planning the nursing care needed to meet those needs, including the spiritual, emotional, and physiological needs. The average nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. The RN is responsible to see that The Plan of Care is carried out through a range of patient care including: IV lines, catheters, feeding tubes, nasal gastric tubes, enemas, hygiene needs, dressing changes, blood glucose monitoring, 02 setups, telemetry, decubitus care, monitoring of vital signs, and assisting with activities of daily living. Administers IV and oral medications. Responsible for admission and discharge of patient along with patient and family teaching. Prepares patients for surgery. Responds to codes and emergencies. Administers quality control; counts narcotics, checks physician orders, updates patient charts, copies transfer papers, checks daily weights, monitors intake/output, and gives accurate report of patient’s condition to oncoming shift. Notifies Supervisor, Physician, and family of changes in patient condition.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensed and current registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois. New graduate must sit for boards and submit for IL licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills

Responsibilities
