About The Position

We’re hiring a night shift Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department Holding Unit, supporting patients in an ED holding area who require med-surg or intermediate‑level care while they await admission, transfer, or next steps in their care journey. You’ll play a key role in delivering safe, coordinated care to a diverse patient population in a fast‑paced ED environment.

Requirements

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina
• Comfortable caring for med-surg and/or intermediate‑acuity patients, ideally in an ED or acute care setting
• A strong communicator who values teamwork, collaboration, and patient safety
• Committed to providing compassionate care that respects patient and family preferences
• Able to think critically and stay adaptable in a dynamic, high‑energy environment
• Registered Nurse Required
• Diploma Nursing Required - Or Associate's Degree Nursing Required

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, patient‑centered nursing care based on individualized plans of care
• Assess and monitor patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs while coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team
• Safely administer medications, treatments, and therapies per physician orders and nursing standards
• Educate patients and families using clear, respectful communication that supports shared decision‑making
• Uphold WakeMed’s Professional Practice Model and Patient & Family Centered Care philosophy in every interaction
