About The Position

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton is hiring a Registered Nurse for 2 East, a 25-bed adult medical–surgical and telemetry unit that cares for patients with a wide range of medical and post-surgical needs. The nurse joins a collaborative team focused on safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in a community hospital environment.

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, and within the scope of a Massachusetts Registered Nurse license, the nurse uses the Nursing Process to assess patients, plan and coordinate care, implement interventions, evaluate outcomes, update care plans, and document care. The role includes providing culturally responsive care, patient and representative teaching, and coordinated care with other health care providers. Nurses care for patients across relevant age groups and diagnoses, including neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and cardiac conditions, and provide telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition.

The position is scheduled for 36 hours per week across three 12-hour night shifts, with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation. It is eligible for full-time benefits. The listed base pay range is $36.00–$90.14 per hour; compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, education, location, responsibilities, and applicable differentials or other additional pay. Staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.

Requirements

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association before hire.
• Recent acute medical/surgical/telemetry nursing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients systematically, interpret data, make nursing judgments, develop and update care plans, implement and coordinate interventions, evaluate outcomes, and document the nursing process.
• Consider patients’ cultural beliefs and practices and use interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
• Provide and coordinate health teaching for patients and/or their representatives.
• Collaborate and communicate with other health care providers to support quality and continuity of care.
• Provide age-appropriate care for the patient groups regularly served and seek resources when caring for other age groups.
• Maintain position-specific and hospital-wide competencies for the patient population served.
• Adhere to standard precautions.
• Assume the charge nurse role as necessary.
• Participate in unit-based quality assurance studies and unit meetings.
• Participate in nursing committees, in-services, and orientation programs as directed.
• Attend or participate in training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
• Assist with ordering and maintaining supplies as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
• Assess and manage care issues for patients undergoing operative, procedural, or medical procedures.
• Provide care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring and recognize dysrhythmias.
• Provide care to medical–surgical patients with a range of diagnoses, including neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and cardiac conditions.
• Perform duties in accordance with applicable safety requirements, laws, regulations, and department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Perform similar or related duties when necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by a department manager or supervisor.
• Follow standard precautions for infection control and use available protective gear when tasks may expose staff to blood or body fluids.
