About The Position

As a Registered Nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), you will provide high-quality nursing care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions who require a higher level of monitoring and care than a traditional medical-surgical setting. The IMCU is a 40-bed unit caring for patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, and multi-organ dysfunction. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive patient assessments, recognizing changes in condition, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, and evaluating patient responses to care. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will also follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and appropriately delegate tasks based on patient condition and team competencies.

Requirements

  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Specialized field of study should be nursing.
  • RN license.
  • Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles, patient care standards, and acute-care procedures.
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, assessment, and management of patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines, including the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, common medications, disease processes, and treatment interventions.
  • Understanding of professional nursing ethics, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage care for multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, email, Microsoft Office, and other hospital systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust interventions based on patient response.
  • Provide care to adult patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions, including patients experiencing stroke, cardiac conditions, and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Closely monitor patients and recognize changes in condition, escalating concerns and interventions appropriately to promote patient safety.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments according to patient needs and established standards of care.
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatments, and ongoing healthcare needs. Assess and document learning needs and patient understanding.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, while following up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care, and respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting peers, participating in professional development, and promoting quality and patient safety.
