About The Position

The Correctional Registered Nurse provides skilled nursing care within a correctional facility, supporting incarcerated inmates. This role involves direct patient care, medication administration, patient education, and maintaining a safe and secure clinical environment. The nurse will collaborate with healthcare providers, apply infection control practices, and operate clinical equipment.

Requirements

Skilled nursing care within a correctional facility.
Support incarcerated inmates.
Accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical documentation.
Standardized patient education.
Transcription and communication of medical orders.
Strict confidentiality of patient information.
Direct patient care, including physical treatments and medication administration (PO, IM, IV, SQ, SL).
Collaboration with healthcare providers.
Application of infection control practices and crisis intervention techniques.
Patient interviews, triage assessments, and response to urgent/emergent situations.
Assistance with minor medical and surgical procedures.
Monitoring, ordering, and restocking of medications and medical supplies.
Observation and reporting of patients’ physical and emotional conditions.
Comprehensive physical and behavioral health assessments.
Promotion and upholding of a safe and secure clinical environment.
Careful control of medications, sharps, instruments, and other sensitive medical items.
Operation of clinical equipment.
Knowledge of applicable life safety policies and procedures.
Prompt reporting of safety or security concerns.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical documentation.
Provide standardized patient education in accordance with established nursing guidelines.
Transcribe and communicate medical orders during shift changes.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
Deliver direct patient care, including physical treatments and medication administration (PO, IM, IV, SQ, SL).
Collaborate with healthcare providers to implement and support individualized treatment plans.
Apply infection control practices and crisis intervention techniques.
Conduct patient interviews, triage assessments, and respond to urgent and emergent situations.
Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures.
Monitor, order, and restock medications and medical supplies as needed.
Observe and report patients’ physical and emotional conditions, including responses to medications and treatments.
Perform comprehensive physical and behavioral health assessments using established nursing protocols.
Promote and uphold a safe and secure clinical environment, including careful control of medications, sharps, instruments, and other sensitive medical items.
Operate clinical equipment appropriate to the assigned unit.
Maintain knowledge of all applicable life safety policies and procedures.
Report safety or security concerns promptly through established documentation channels.
