About The Position

The Staff Nurse Inpatient reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values, follows its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. This clinically competent registered professional nurse prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care for acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse collaborates with patients, families, physicians, ancillary staff, and other members of the health team, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. This full-time night position is in the Float Pool at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or an associate degree in Nursing (ADN) with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
• Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with others.
• Strong analytic abilities.
• For Emergency Room roles: ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and TNCC within one year of hire.
• For Pediatric Emergency Room roles: Pediatric Advanced Life Support and TNCC within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a specific clinical area.
• For Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room roles: Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Emergency Communications Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Nurse, or Certified Emergency Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze patient data, identify expected outcomes, and develop and implement individualized plans of care.
• Coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward expected outcomes.
• Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, ancillary staff, and other health team members.
• Create a documented plan focused on outcomes and care-delivery decisions, including communications with patients, families, and others.
• Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
• Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
• Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
• Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care for acutely ill patients through the nursing process.
