About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides bedside care to a diverse population of acutely ill patients in a 30-bed Acute/Cardiac unit. The unit cares for patients with primary cardiac diagnoses and medical patients requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring. The RN applies the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate patient care and reports to the Director.

The RN works with registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, health unit coordinators, monitor technicians, clinical educators, advanced practice nurses, and the wider interdisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care. The role includes educating patients and families throughout their stay and preparing them for discharge.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program; a basic professional nursing degree is required.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a Compact State.
• BLS certification issued through the American Heart Association.
• At least 1 year of nursing experience in an acute cardiac care setting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities.
• Competency in electronic patient management systems.
• If a BSN or MSN degree is not held at hire, the employee must sign an agreement to obtain one within a specified time frame.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support a patient-centered continuum of care.
• Communicate variances from patient goals and advocate on behalf of patients.
• Maintain accurate and timely healthcare records.
• Administer medications, educate patients, and monitor medication efficacy and side effects.
• Assess, monitor, report, and record patient condition and pertinent changes.
• Design, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans with the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families throughout the stay and in preparation for discharge.
